State Scientific and Research Machine-Building Institute (GosNIImash) JSC

   The federal state unitary enterprise “State Scientific and Research Machine-Building Institute” (GosNIImash) is a leading Russian developer and manufacturer of warheads for missile weapons.
    In 1970 the design bureau was a part of the DNIKhTI structure (now GosNII “Crystall”).
    In 1977 the enterprise became the first domestic institute specializing in development of warheads for various types of missiles. It was established in accordance with resolution of the State committee of the USSR Council of Ministers on science and technology No. 47 dated September, 5, 1977.

The key areas of work are the following:
- research, design and manufacture of warheads for controlled missiles of all classes and
types with conventional explosives, efficiency of WH application, lethaliry, design methodology, mathematical and physical modeling;
- research in the field of physics of explosion and high-speed collision;
- research, development and manufacture of civil products and consumer goods.

The main activities are the following:
- research in the sphere of physics of explosion, calculations of tasks in physics of explosion, cumulation and high-speed collision;
- research in the field of construction reliability, operation reliability and durability at different loads;
- development and manufacture of mobile, stationary and small-scale means of impulse dry-powder fire fighting;
- production of fine powder of superhard materials: detonation diamond and wurtzite-like boron nitride;
- application of superhard chrome-wurtzite coats, increasing the operation life of a unit by 5–6 times;
- surface fluoridization of fabricated rubber and polymer articles in order to raise their in-use life and oil- and-gas resistance characteristics;
- production of bimetals and multi-layer compositions by explosion welding;
- application of a catalyzer on the internal surface of metal pipes by the method of explosion;
- manufacture of injection assembly details with the length of up to 3 meters for automatic molding machines in any configuration;
- manufacturing of equipment for maternity homes and children’s hospitals: infant beds, swaddling tables and carriages for babies;
- diamond cutting into brilliants;
- development of new technologies with explosion energy application;
- rendering services on mechanical processing and manufacturing of articles and component parts according to the customer’s documentation: gear-hobbing works (part diameter up to 320 mm, module m=6, parts up to 200 mm); lathe works (part diameter up to 900 mm, length – up to 4000 mm); including deep drilling of holes with diameter 14.7–100 mm and length of parts up to 3000 mm, boring works on manufacturing box-like pieces of size 1000 õ 600 õ 600 mm3; surface hardening by the nitriding method with hardness of nitriding layer HV 800–1000 and depth 0.3–0.4 mm (part diameter up to 500 mm, length – up to 2000 mm);
- manufacture of cutting instruments;
- application of wear-resistant nano-composite covering on the cutting instrument and die tooling.
    By order of the Federal Industrial Agency No. 281 of July 03, 2007 the institute was
named after Vyacheslav V. Bakhirev, former Minister of the USSR Machine building industry and hero of socialist labor.
